About the work
A series of instructive drawings will invite their purchaser to visit a beautiful
but perhaps overlooked place or thing in Dublin city centre. For each drawing
there will be a small alteration to an ordinary place, highlighting something
I want people to notice. I may use a splash of colour, interfere with lighting,
amplify a sound etc. The drawings will contain a map and a description of what
to look out for and what time/type of day would be best for what I would like
to point out. Each drawing will also have an overall map giving general locations
for all the little interventions, so people can go on a treasure hunt around
the city if they would like to.
To view the work people will have to invest
their time, the opposite to the purpose of a using a vending machine. The aim
is to encourage people to slow
their pace and to notice new things about their familiar everyday routes and
the city they inhabit. Located in busy city centre areas, the work may also
catch the attention of unsuspecting passers-by.
