About the work
In my work, the pillowcase acts as a canvas to work onto, while sewing demonstrates
a remarkable ability to flatten space and map time. The idea of an intricate
network is crucial to the process. The pillowcase serves as a permanent reminder
of everyday movements and highlights the web of travel people accumulate. My
own work practice echoes the very nature of a long journey – intricate,
winding, and controlled.
The question of how to pass the time on a daily commute
has been central to my work. I became interested in how people deal with the
repetitive mundane
routine of the journey after becoming more aware of the ever increasing commuter
culture. A passive immersion in the endless route of travel and stops is all
that some people can hope for while others try everything to make the journey
more comfortable.
